Information for Parents
Licensed Home Child Care provides home-based early learning and care in a family setting. Home Child Care Providers are selected for their child care skills and their ability to provide children with a warm, inclusive, safe and stimulating environment. The advantages of home child care include: lower child to Provider ratio; an informal group setting; flexible child care hours; and proximity to your home, work or your child’s school. Home child care also provides the stability and consistency of a close relationship with one adult.
Potential Home Child Care Providers are screened through a comprehensive process and home assessment by a highly skilled Home Child Care Consultant.
In order to be considered, providers must submit:
- A criminal reference check for everyone in the home over 18 years of age
- A Children’s Aid Society background check (over 12 years of age)
- A health assessment, by a physician, for all family members
- Up-to-date immunization records for all family members
- References
Providers also undergo an extensive home opening process which includes, but is not limited to: a home safety check; a review of policies and procedures; and an agreement to follow the Day Nurseries Act of Ontario.
Upon completion of home opening, Providers must agree to complete a First Aid/CPR training course.
Home Child Care Providers are visited regularly by a Child Care Consultant to ensure that the highest standards of child development, health, nutrition and safety are met. They are also offered ongoing professional development opportunities. Providers will have access to many resources such as equipment, a toy lending library, playgroups and special events.
Parents choosing licensed Home Child Care are able to access support and resources on child development related issues and, if eligible, services with Children's Integration Support Services (CISS) for children who have special needs. For more information about CISS, please, please

For information about fee subsidies you can contact the City of Ottawa at 613-580-9696 or click here.
The Full Fee policy of the Andrew Fleck Home Child Care program requires a full month’s payment as soon as a child care placement has been accepted. This payment will be applied to your child care fees in the first month of care. This reserves the space for your child. If in the event you cancel the care arrangement a two week paid notice will apply.
Your monthly fee will be calculated by the total number of days care as per your contract, regardless of whether your child is absent through holidays or illness. Longer hours or extra days will require an additional charge. Receipts for the fees collected the previous year are provided annually by the end of February..
