Positive Outcomes Program
Who We Are
The Positive Outcomes Program (POP) from Children’s Integration Support Services (CISS) provides behaviour management support to licensed early learning and child care programs, in the City of Ottawa, that have identified children (0 to 10-12 years of age) with challenging behaviours who are not eligible for CISS.
A challenging behaviour is defined as one that interferes with the learning process and may possibly present safety issues for the child, the other children and the teaching team/provider within the child care setting.
The objectives of the Positive Outcomes Program are to work in close collaboration with the program Supervisor/Home Child Care Advisor and the teaching team/provider:
(a) to enhance all components of the child care environment
(b) to focus on skills development
(c) to address challenging behaviours through the implementation and maintenance of prevention strategies
This approach will help the children adapt to the child care environment and reduce behavioural challenges. The ultimate outcome is to support all children and the teaching team in managing challenging behaviours on a daily basis.
The Positive Outcomes Program is limited to a maximum of 6 months of support.
What We Do
Support for the teaching team/provider could be provided through a program environmental needs plan, behaviour management training, child specific prevention or intervention plan, or other. The teaching team/provider will be expected to work in collaboration with the Behaviour Management Consultant in collecting data by the means of completing various assessment tools or data forms, implementing and maintaining the recommended strategies, and/or any other suggested activities in the child care setting. Verbal and written information will be shared with the CISS Consultant Psychologist by the Behaviour Management Consultant, when required.
To determine the level of support that may be required, it is essential that the Request for Positive Outcomes Program be thoroughly completed by the Manager and/or teaching team/Home Child Care Advisor and/or provider and that their observation notes be shared with the Behaviour Management Consultant that will complete a screening observation for the request.
Our Team
The Positive Outcomes Program team includes Behaviour Management Consultants and administrative staff.
Requests
Requests for the Positive Outcomes Program can be made by licensed early learning and child care programs with written parental/guardian consent. The early learning and child care programs must complete the Request for Positive Outcomes Program: Licensed Child Care or Licensed Home Child Care form and the parents/guardians must complete the Parent/Guardian Consent form. Both forms must be mailed to the POP Program Supervisor (see contact information below). Only originals will be accepted.
