Who We Are
Peace of mind for working parents is what this bilingual program initiated in 1987 is all about. We provide reliable, accessible back up care for children 3 months to 12 years when the child is mildly ill, when regular child care arrangements are interrupted, or when other family emergencies arise. Employers/organizations/unions pay an annual access fee that entitles their employees/members access to the Short Term Child Care Program. Parents who use the services are charged a reasonable user fee, which may be subsidized partially or fully by their employer/union.
Short Term Child Care also provides respite child care programs at Women’s Shelters.
What We Do
Short Term Child Care (STCC) offers three quality options to best meet your temporary child care needs:
- a STCC caregiver cares for your child/children in your home ( For information on STCC caregivers, click here).
- your child/children can be cared for in a regulated caregiver's home. STCC facilitates this option of care through licensed home child care agencies in your community
- your child/children can attend a licensed child care centre of your choice or our suggestion, space permitting
We offer flexible child care arrangements to meet the varied working schedules of working parents – days, evenings, overnight and weekends. We offer working parents with an alternative to missing days or even weeks of work due to a lack of temporary child care.
In addition to supporting working parents, trained caregivers also provide weekly early learning and child care sessions at the eight Women’s Shelters in the City of Ottawa.

Monday to Friday: 6 am to 5 pm & 7 pm to 9 pm
Saturday & Sunday: 7 pm to 9 pm
(Voicemail Access: 24 hours, 7 days per week)
Care in the home is available 24 hours and 365 days of the year.
